Breathing Exercises

April is a magical month – with spring buds everywhere well at least they are trying to come out, there’s a sense of renewal in the air…it feels like we want to just open up and breathe it all in! What a good time to start a daily practice of wonderful breathing exercises. Mindful breathing is relaxing, yet energizing and brings a whole host of health benefits to the body. Try this mindful breathing technique, and see how good you feel!

  • Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.
  • Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
  • Hold your breath for a count of seven.
  • Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound to a count of eight.
  • This is one breath. Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths.

You can use this technique as a daily practice and also any time you feel stressed or need to centre yourself.
