A refreshing mind-body workout

Pilates exercises gets your mind in tune with your body.  By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely aware of how your body feels, where it is in space, and how to control its movement. The quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. Proper breathing is essential, and helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency. Last but not least, learning to breathe properly can reduce stress. Clients always ask;

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a series of exercises which help you to achieve maximum efficiency from your body!

These exercises  are based upon a breath control that helps you to build core muscle strength.
Your strength will build as your body stretches,
your stretching helps you to become properly aligned,
your repositioned body is enabled to improve how you move and support your body weight,
your enhanced musclature supports your whole body,
your sense of well being and enjoyment of your everyday movement improves,
exercising becomes easier, back pain considerably reduced, uncomfortable bloating disappears and sleep is deeper!

“Is Pilates relaxing???”
Practising Pilates makes relaxing possible!.
Pilates enables your muscles to work when you need to hop to it! AND to relax when you want to relax!

Pilates helps cure back pain and to re-align your body to how it should be. Feel Taller, stand straighter  and add back the height that you may have lost due to poor posture. Pilates is both relaxing and rewarding.

Who can do Pilates?
Pilates is suitable for all age groups, whether you’re a young 80-year old doing the plank or an old 8 year old doing the crocodile Who’s to say an 80-year old woman with osteoporosis can’t do Pilates? Of course, each individual is different and they should always consult their doctor. The best part about Pilates exercises is that they can be modified for various body types, physical conditions, and individual needs.

What are the Benefits of Pilates?
That 80-year old woman, the forty-something rugby playing dad re-living the glory days, or the next Tiger Woods golfer, can benefit from Pilates by improving muscle imbalances, poor  posture, co-ordination, and balance, whilst  preventing injury and creating overall health and well being.

Why then don’t more men do Pilates?
Times are changing and we’re taking back control of our health. Women have known and experienced the benefits of Pilates Classes for years. Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, himself a boxer and self-defense instructor, to aid in the rehabilitation of the disabled and sick from World War I. It wasn’t until 1926, when Joseph opened his first studio in New York City, that he began to train dancers and athletes.

Real men pump iron don’t they?
Try telling that to the New Zealand All Blacks! The All Blacks include Pilates as part of their fitness programme. The best news for men is that Joe Pilates developed his exercises for both men and women, and around 25% of those attending Pilates classes today are men.  So you don’t have to be a sportsman, professional or otherwise, to enjoy the benefits of Pilates.

Where is your Core?
The best way to improve posture and develop muscle strength is to develop the body’s core muscles – those around the trunk area. These muscles act like a corset around your trunk, – and guys! – before we go any further, you can’t buy this corset. The development of this “imaginary” corset will help alleviate back pain, flatten your stomach, and pull all the other abdominal muscles into the right place.
