Serotonin


Serotonin…We don’t know about you guys, but if feels hard to get enough sleep with so little darkness at this time of year.

You may have heard of Serotonin, – also known as ‘the happiness hormone’.
Serotonin can also aid sleep patterns and your body can be assisted to maintain helathy levels of Serotonin by regular excercising and a diet rich in calcium and B vitamins, including;
raw vegetables, nuts, oats, sesame seeds, broccoli, kelp (and other seaweeds), soya beans, eggs, seafood, dairy produce.
You can not only aid your sleep patterns (as long as you eat 3hrs before sleep!), – but the Serotonin produced by diet and exercise keeps your mind healthy as well, because excercise effects the biology of the brain the same way that anti-depressants do!

Recipes for Aromatherapy Essential Oil sleep aids for your bathtime…..

Lavander 4 drops
Petitgrain 2 drops

or

Lavander 3 drops
Marjoram 3 drops

or

Neroli 3 drops
Petitgrain 3 drops

or

Camomile 4 drops
Lavander 2 drops

You can also use these recipes in a relaxing footbath or in a spray form (for your pillow) or in your massage oil.

Summer recipe for ‘herb tea’ sleep remedy (for 2)

2 cups of fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons of apricot jam
2 tablespoons of grand marnier (triple sec or cointreau)
1 sml teaspoon of nutmeg

Heat the juice, jam & nutmeg till just before the boil, remove from heat, strain and add grand marnier.

Enjoy.
